Getting a boating license differs from location to location. Some states may pay rigorous attention to boat licence while some care far less about owning a boat license. States that require boating license pay attention to a certain degree of certification to boat riders or owners.
To get a boat license, the first thing you want to do is to register your boat and then research and learn about the requirements needed to get a boating license.

Like I mentioned, these requirements differ from state to state. For example, In Georgia, only boat operators between the age of 12 and 15 years are required to get a boat license while in Mississippi, you must have a license if you were born after June 29, 1980.To check the requirements for your state, you could use this online resource or visit your state’s official website.

Here’s a few states and their age requirements:
Mississippi: You must provide a boating license if you were born after June 29, 1980.
Alabama: If you already clocked age 40 at April 28, 1994 then there’s no need to have a license.

Boat-ed.com is a great online course platform where you can select your state and take the online boating safety education which is approved by most states in the US. Please note that this boating safety education is not the same thing as the boat license. Instead, it’s a certified boater education course that’s recommended by each state. The next thing you want to do is to apply for your license. Like I said, this should be done after registering your boat.

Most states today require that you complete some safety education courses and get a safety boating certificate or I.D card or a certificate that shows that you’ve successfully completed the required boating courses before applying for a boat license.
